Ah! Ah! Yosh and Stan are back! We want more TP! We want more TP (note: TP does not stand for toilet paper, no, TP stands for Thik Polka, aka Polka Band Gobi)
Dear Polka Afficianado;
You may be surprised to know the origins of our beloved "Polka": polka
1844, from Fr., from Czech polka, the dance, lit. "Polish woman" (Polish Polka), fem. of Polak "a Pole." The word may also be an alteration of Czech pulka "half," for the half-steps of Bohemian peasant dances. The dance was in vogue first in Prague, 1835; it reached London by the spring of 1842. Polka dot is first recorded 1884 and is named for the dance, for no reason except its popularity, which led to many contemporary products and fashions taking the name.
So our beloved music hopped from Prague to London and eventually swam across the Atlantic to America. There are some who believe it took the land route and went into Asia, India and across the Bering Straits to Alaska and trickled down the Alcan Highway to North America. But enough of the politics. Yoshe and Stehn are doing a world tour and will retrace the true route of the Polka. We cannot wait.
Oh Anges and Mr Geoff...so how good to hear from you it is. I can't figure out how that rumor of Toilet Paper started, (does make sensible to me??)And to now have the whole story of the Polka and how it came to be wonerful wonerful. I have heard that the polka could go back to the begining of time or something like that, that is what someone told me once. Could be maybe.
Shtan and Yoush
